Shot blasting is the process used to prep the concrete. In this process, the surface of your floor is almost textured to remove loose concrete and other contaminants. And if you’re afraid that your floor has too many cracks, pits, or spalling to be a candidate for floor coating, don’t be.

In fact, your floor can still be coated just as easily. As a matter of fact, damage like cracks and pits are very common on Minnesota concrete floors. With changing temperatures and elements like deicing salt, your concrete garage floor will undergo a great deal of damage and so it’s normal – and even expected – to need repairs to the floor before the coating.

Once your floor has been prepared with shot blasting and any necessary repairs have been made, your floor is reading for coating. It starts with a base coat applied to the floor. Once that is done, next comes broadcasting the flakes. These flakes give the floor a great look of texture and depth. They should be applied on a wet surface, and then need only 45 to 60 minutes to cure. 

The next step in the process is scraping the flakes, or chips; this helps to remove any of the flakes that aren’t lying flat on the floor. That step, in turn will give the floor an even texture. Any loose flakes can simply be vacuumed away.

Then comes the final step: the clear coat application, which will make your beautiful new floor last for years and decades to come. After this is done, you only have to wait between 4 and 6 hours to walk on it. Within 24 hour,s you’ll be using your garage again without a hitch.
